Melt & Pour Soap

Whether it's for gifting or you're wanting to stock up to make your own soap, the melt and pour method is the gateway to soap making. Plus, it's super easy!

Supplies & Ingredients

Directions

  1. Before jumping into the soap, work on developing your scent. We used cotton balls to add essential oil to test out our scent mixes. Once you come up with a mix, write up how many drops of each you will want to do. You'll want to do a total of 50-60 drops of essential oil.

    1. For example Citrus Lavender - 30 Lavender, 15 Lemon, 5 Chamomile (pictured below)

  2. Now that you have your scent, it's time to start. Take a pound of the meltable soap and chop it into small cubes (helps melt faster). Then put in a glass mixing bowl.

  3. Next put the soap into the microwave and do 1 minute intervals until melted. Between each interval, mix the melting soap with a spatula.

  4. As the soap is melting, take your silicone mold and put on a baking sheet lined with parchment, foil, or wax paper.

  5. Once melted, add your essential oils to the mixing bowl and mix slowly with a spatula, but well. You don't want to create a lot of air bubbles.

  6. Now carefully pour the soap mixture into your silicone mold.

  7. Then spritz the tops with a little rubbing alcohol as this will eliminate air bubbles.

  8. Now gently place your tray of soap somewhere safe to harden. You will want a spot that it will not be hit or moved a lot. The curing takes overnight to 24 hours.

  • You can add some exfoliators when adding the essential oils, or after pouring into the molds. Exfoliators are optional. Whatever you choose just make sure it won't hurt the plumbing in the future.

  • You can get colors to add to your soaps after melting. You can also try adding things like turmeric, paprika, or spirulina for natural colors, but I'm not sure on the amount.

  • Pick up some plastic bags and ribbon at Dollar Tree for gifting. Design your own label or add a herb sprig to the bow to add even more personal touches.

  • Michael's has a small section for soaps. I picked up a round soap silicone mold.

Hope you enjoy and that this doesn't become too addictive!
